The M.A. (International Studies) programme offered by SSIS seeks to equip students with multidisciplinary knowledge and skills pertinent to address the 21st century global challenges. While engaging with topics on peace, conflict, justice, rights, development, global commons, environment, cooperation, governance, diplomacy and so on, the emphasis is on developing critical thinking to come up with tangible alternatives to address the unresolved issues. The specialization offered under the course on Area Studies and corresponding Foreign language fosters scholarship of the region informed by a deeper understanding of an interconnected and interdependent world.
The curriculum includes mandatory internship in the third semester that prepares students for careers with CSOs, NGOs, international organizations, think tanks, civil services, media, academia, consultancies and financial institutions.
The programme through its interdisciplinary flavour will provide students with the knowledge and expertise they need to pursue careers with international organizations, regional organizations, corporate houses, corporate foundations, private organizations, government, NGOs, or media. It also facilitates career progression into research roles in policy think tanks, risk analysis organisations or doctoral programmes. Our faculty members are a good blend of prominent academicians, active researchers and practitioners, attesting to the belief that the best pedagogy comes from a mix of theory and praxis. The diverse background of both the faculty and the postgraduate students makes for a cosmopolitan and enriching environment.
