NATO's New Strategic Concept, US Policy to NATO and Implications for India's Security

The Symbiosis School of International Studies (SSIS), Pune and the US Consulate General, Mumbai jointly organised a lecture on 28 July 2016 at the New Viman Nagar Campus of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune.

TThe lecture was delivered by Mr. Sameer Patil, Fellow, National Security, Ethnic Conflict and Terrorism Studies, Gateway House, Mumbai, and was titled 'NATO's New Strategic Concept, US Policy to NATO and Implications for India's Security'.

Mr. Patil highlighted some key events which took place during the inception and emergence of NATO in the new world order; shift in NATO's policies towards intervention in conflicted countries. The presentation informed the audience of issues related to conflict and power, and India's non-formal albeit nascent engagement with NATO. In the last decade, NATO's strategic policy has focused towards increased cooperation with non-members, in order to expand its stated interest into the Pacific theatre. In the contemporary setting, NATO's challenges range from non-consensus on strategic priorities and emerging threat of instability in Europe due to refugees and spread of violent extremism.

Mr. Jayessh Dadlaney, Programme Specialist, Public Affairs, Department of Public Diplomacy, US Consulate General, Mumbai was also present for the event. The lecture was also well attended by the faculty and students of Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Pune and SSIS.
